Research Manager
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Vice President of Research, the Research Manager performs research, data collection, economic/statistical/demographic analysis of the Greater Richmond region. Collaboratively works with Business Development and Marketing teams on creating custom research and client proposals in an effort to increase consideration of Greater Richmond among businesses so that they want to locate in the region. May supervise interns.
This is an at-will position.
TYPICAL DUTIES
- Performs research, data collection, economic, statistical and demographic analysis using professionally accepted methods to include research on regional economic trends and competitiveness showcasing the economic health of the Greater Richmond region.
- Works closely with Business Development team on project proposals, Requests for Information (RFI) and presentations for clients and collaboratively works with other team members to craft “Why Richmond” pitches.
- Manages Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system for the team to include creating and analyzing metrics reports and team training.
- Creates, maintains and updates data visualizations and digital maps utilizing data to tell a story.
- Ensures data section of website is always updated with current information.
- Stays abreast of current news and trends within industries to identify companies that may be ripe for expansion or relocation opportunities.
- Works closely with Business Development team to utilize lead generation tools to identify both companies and corporate executives within targeted industries and compiles and maintains lists for outreach in Salesforce and HubSpot to track activity.
- Engages the Marketing and Business Development Teams to identify when there are opportunities to use data and maps to make the business case for Greater Richmond.
- Works with team to identify suitable sites and buildings and maintains a working knowledge of available commercial real estate.
- Copy editing, proofing and updating RFIs, presentations, website, marketing materials as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or a related field. One to three years of business, research, marketing or business development experience. Work experience may be substituted for education year-by-year on a case-by-case basis.
- Highly motivated self-starter who works well independently and with teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Superb organization, written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
- Command of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Salesforce, Google Alerts.
- Working knowledge of geomapping, economic analysis and lead generation tools such as CoStar, JobsEQ, Lightcast, ARC GIS, ESRI, Dunn & Bradstreet, IMPLAN, ZoomInfo, Gazelle and data from Census and BLS.
- Familiarity with data visualization platforms and how to tell a story with data.
- Must be able to help shape abstract concepts then produce a definitive product, as well as work on numerous projects simultaneously.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual
- Certification in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Salesforce.
- Familiarity with LinkedIn as a sales platform, content marketing systems such as HubSpot.
- Command of JobsEQ, Lightcast, CoStar.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Comfortable working conditions, handling lightweight, intermittent sitting, standing and walking. Occasional exposure to hazards associated with construction site visits including exposure to multiple-story elevations, cramped quarters, temporary stairs and planks, temperature extremes, dust, noise, power equipment and vehicular traffic.
- Considerable exposure to stressful situations and stress as a result of human behavior and various responsibilities.
- Non-traditional working hours which may include evenings and weekends.
- Operates a motor vehicle requiring a standard Virginia Driver’s License. Operates a variety of standard office equipment including a personal computer, copier, fax machine, telephone, calculator and based on job assignment may require the performance of other essential and marginal functions.
