Greater Richmond Partnership welcomes engineering firm Terracon to the City of Richmond

April 23, 2025

Terracon Richmond VA

RICHMOND, Va. – The Greater Richmond Partnership (GRP) announces Terracon, an employee-owned multidiscipline engineering and scientific consulting firm, opened an office in the City of Richmond, Va.

The company chose an office space at 3711 Saunders Ave., bringing expertise and economic growth to the Richmond community. The project is expected to create 25 new jobs in the next year, including field technicians, engineering, project management and administrative support opportunities.

“This new location allows us to expand our reach, provide localized services and connect with clients more effectively,” said Jay Wheeler, PG, Office Manager and Principal.

“As a company dedicated to innovation and sustainability, we are excited to deepen our impact here in Richmond through collaboration with local businesses and organizations.”

The new location provides convenient access to key industrial and manufacturing clients.

“Terracon already has offices in Washington, D.C., Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, so Richmond was a clear next step in serving our clients across the state with more accessibility and localized resources,” said Wheeler.

The company chose Greater Richmond due to its strong business climate. As capital of CNBC’s top states for business and home to several Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 headquartered businesses, Richmond was a natural choice for Terracon’s expansion.

“The Greater Richmond Partnership first pitched a local Terracon office in early 2024 during a conference,” said GRP President + CEO Jennifer Wakefield. “We are excited to add the company to Richmond’s robust AEC community, helping to grow the region’s real estate assets.”

The new office reflects Terracon’s commitment to delivering exceptional solutions while contributing to the local economy and fostering meaningful community relationships. Terracon also plans to partner with local schools and colleges to offer internship programs and mentorship opportunities, further supporting STEM education and career pathways in the area through The Terracon Foundation.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Terracon to Richmond as a member of our diverse, thriving business community,” said Richmond Mayor Danny Avula. “Attracting new businesses and supporting those already here is central to our vision of building a strong, resilient City with opportunity for all. The announcement of Terracon’s plans to establish a presence in Richmond illustrates the City’s reputation as a hub for innovation and place that attracts people, talent and businesses. These kinds of partnerships are crucial to the work of building a brighter future for all Richmonders.”

“On behalf of the City of Richmond, I would like to welcome Terracon and we look forward to their continued growth as a community partner,” said Dr. Cynthia Newbille, President of the Richmond City Council and member of the GRP Board of Directors. “The City is growing thanks in part to the engineering professionals and construction consultants who invest jobs and capital in our region – and residents are benefitting.”

The Greater Richmond Partnership helped the City of Richmond Department of Economic Development with this attraction project.
