VCU Health is the most comprehensive teaching medical center in Virginia and is regularly ranked among the top hospitals in America. Its medical school is one of the nation’s largest and houses one of the nation’s oldest transplant programs.
HCA Virginia, which is headquartered in Richmond, maintains a network of 14 hospitals, 27 outpatient centers, three urgent care centers, five free-standing emergency centers and over 3,000 affiliated physicians. HCA Virginia sponsors over 300 community health education and screening events on an annual basis.
Bon Secours Health System has four hospitals in Greater Richmond plus additional care facilities as well as a college of nursing, a school of medical imaging and two-family practice residency programs.
VA Richmond Healthcare System, primarily serviced by Hunter Homes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, is a general medical and surgical facility as well as a teaching hospital. This 1.2 million square foot facility has research programs with a $7 million yearly budget.

Massey Cancer Center, part of VCU Health, is a single point of outpatient care for cancer and hematology patients. Research is at the forefront of Massey with over 200 studies for multiple types of cancer and prevention, making the center a leader in cancer research. It is the only National Cancer Institute designated cancer center in Greater Richmond and one of two in Virginia, ranking in the top 4 percent of cancer centers in the nation.
Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, in addition to its award-winning outpatient Children’s Pavilion, strives to provide quality, research-driven care to children of all ages. Vibra Hospital of Richmond specializes in critical and chronic illnesses. Earning the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation, Vibra, a critical care hospital, focuses on patients who require long-term care.
Virginia Eye Institute, one of Virginia’s largest ophthalmology practices, provides a plethora of ophthalmology, optometry and optical services to patients in Greater Richmond.
