If you’re free during the weekend, then you’re not trying hard enough. From exciting college sports to NASCAR, from hiking and biking to tubing on the James River … there’s something for everyone in Greater Richmond.

For the sports fans

Richmond Raceway, Henrico County

Richmond Raceway, known as America’s Premier Short Track, offers great racing action and a commitment to the fan experience. One of the most popular facilities among drivers and fans in all of motorsports, Richmond Raceway hosts two weekends of NASCAR racing per season.

Local colleges, including Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond, offer football, basketball and many other sporting events.

For fun around the baseball diamond, the Richmond Flying Squirrels are the home team. As the AA-affiliate for the San Francisco Giants, a game with this minor league team is as fun as the name implies.

The Richmond Kickers are one of the oldest continuously run professional soccer clubs in the United States.

Festivals

Greater Richmond’s festival scene is abundant — there seems to be at least one happening every weekend! Between food festivals and cultural events, the region’s residents like to get out and enjoy themselves.

There are cultural festivals with dance showcases, music and art festivals and even festivals just about food (yes, we like to eat). Learn how to dance at the Latin Festival, buy something special at the Festival of India or learn the history of railroads at Ashland Train Day.

Entertainment & Amusement

Metro Richmond Zoo, Chesterfield County

Scream out loud at Richmond’s premier theme park. Kings Dominion’s 400 acres of fun offers a kids area, a waterpark and one of the East Coast’s largest collection of breath-taking roller coasters.
