Elephant Insurance adding staff, moving U.S. headquarters into former Circuit City building

August 18, 2014

Elephant Insurance Services LLC will nearly double its staff and is moving its U.S. headquarters a few miles east into the Deep Run I office building in Henrico County.

The building, formerly part of Circuit City's headquarters, is also home to Allianz Global Assistance.

CBRE|Richmond said Elephant has leased 54,549 square feet at 9950 Mayland Drive. The real estate group said that marks an increase of about 25,000 square feet from Elephant's current space. The company has operated on East Shore Drive — just off Nuckols Road west of Interstate 295 — since it entered Richmond five years ago.

Elephant's staff is projected to climb to more than 600 people over the next several years, up from about 350 today.

Elephant plans to move in December 2014 and be fully operational at the new location by February 2015. Elephant Auto Insurance was represented in the negotiations by CBRE's Scott Durham, senior vice president.

Charles Bennett, director of construction management at CBRE, will lead the project through construction and move-in.

Allianz Global Assitance, then known as Mondial Assistance USA, moved into the building early in 2012.
