One year after it opened, General Electric Co.'s Information Security Technology Center in Henrico County has hired 100 people and is adding staff members at a rate of about two a week.
Located in the Innsbrook Corporate Center, the site has become a key link in GE's cybersecurity system, where a staff of highly trained employees monitors and protects the global company's computer networks and technology products.
“The reason we are doing this is because it is a dangerous world out there when it comes to information technology,” Larry Biagini, GE's vice president for IT security and compliance, said at an event Thursday marking the one-year anniversary of the center's opening and its 100th hire.
GE officials said they have received about 26,000 applications for jobs at the center.
About 80 percent of the employees were hired from Virginia, said Charlene Begley, GE's senior vice president and chief information officer and president of its home and business solutions division.
