RICHMOND, Va. (March 14, 2023) – Greater Richmond, Virginia, ranks as the #6 “top metro of 2022” based on the number of economic development projects per capita. Site Selection Magazine, a leading source of economic development news, released its rankings of the nation’s top metropolitans in its March 2023 issue. This year’s metro rankings find Greater Richmond in the top 10 for the second year in a row.
“Our vision is to be the top mid-sized region in the U.S. for companies to invest and we are beginning to see this become a reality with prestigious rankings like this one from Site Selection,” said Jennifer Wakefield, President and CEO of the Greater Richmond Partnership.
“We’re clearly punching above our weight when it comes to recruiting companies to this region in collaboration with our partners at the City of Richmond and counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico,” said Wakefield. “We completed our best year in economic development in the past 20 years. We’re fortunate to have a great region to sell and strong collaboration between our public and private sector partners.”
Based on projects per capita in the 1 million+ population category, the region ranks above metros like Columbus, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Mich., Indianapolis, Ind., and Kansas City, Kan., with a total of 55 projects at 41.5 per capita.
The metro-wide data used in this ranking was submitted to Conway Data, the parent company of Site Selection Magazine, and occurs periodically. Read a list of top projects in 2022.
