Several Richmond area-companies were recognized as some of the top B Corporations in the world for their impact on the community and environment.
The fourth annual “Best for the World” awards were announced last week by B Lab, a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit that certifies companies as B Corps and advocates for the business model, in which businesses commit themselves to serve a social or environmental purpose in addition to making a profit.
Richmond-area companies that were recognized included Impact Makers, Maxx Potential, Impact Insurance Agency and Greater Richmond Grid, all in the “Best for Community” category. Acorn Sign Graphics was recognized in the “Best for the Environment” category.
Another Virginia B Corp., Rivanna Natural Designs of Charlottesville, also was recognized in the “Best for Environment” category.
All of the businesses were assessed by B Lab for their impact on the community, environment and workers and earned a score in their respective categories in the top 10 percent of more than 1,200 Certified B Corporations from over 120 industries.
