Spirit Airlines Inc. knows that it’s a “different kind of airline,” said Mark Kopczak, the ultralow-cost carrier’s vice president, network planning.
Spirit, which launched in Richmond last week with daily nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Fla., says it sees an opportunity to undercut existing carriers here with its “bare fare,” which gets passengers a seat, license to carry a small personal bag and nothing else.
Spirit will compete with low-cost carrier JetBlue’s twice-daily nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando and Allegiant’s twice-weekly flights to Orlando-Sanford International Airport.
