Topsoe’s $400 million investment in Greater Richmond has earned the company recognition in Trade & Industry Development’s 2025 CiCi Awards for Community Impact. The Greater Richmond Partnership, in collaboration with Chesterfield County Economic Development and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, helped secure this transformative project.
The Danish clean energy leader will establish a 280,000 sq.ft. manufacturing facility in Chesterfield County’s Meadowville Technology Park, just across from fellow Danish company, the LEGO Group. The facility will produce Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cells (SOECs), a key technology for generating clean hydrogen fuel. The project will bring 150 new jobs to the region and includes a scholarship program for local high school seniors pursuing STEM education.

In October 2024, Topsoe’s Head of Global Affairs for the Americas, Jessica Olson, highlighted the significance of the public-private collaboration behind the project:
“This really is a federal, state and local partnership. We’re proud to bring our clean energy technology to Chesterfield County and invest not just in infrastructure, but in people—through STEM scholarships, workforce development and long-term community growth.”
She also noted that the Chesterfield facility will be modeled after an existing Topsoe plant in Herning, Denmark, ensuring a smooth and proven process as the company scales operations in the U.S.
The project also received $135 million in federal tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act and is expected to have a long-lasting positive impact on the Richmond Region’s economy and clean energy ecosystem.
In addition to the CiCi Award, Business Facilities magazine recently recognized Topsoe with its 2024 STEM Impact Award for advancing science and technology through its investment and educational efforts in the Richmond Region.
