Virginia Commonwealth University is marking a milestone achievement in its renowned research enterprise. Highlighting ongoing and dramatic growth, VCU has surpassed the $500 million mark in sponsored research funding for the first time.
The fiscal year 2024 total of $506 million represents the sixth consecutive year of record-setting funding, and it reflects an 86% increase over six years and 9% over last year. The rapid growth ofย VCUโs research enterpriseย continues the universityโs growing national distinction as a top urban, public research university.
โFor the sixth year in a row, VCU has again broken its own record for sponsored research funding, continuing its rise as one of the nationโs top 50 public research universities,โ said VCU President Michael Rao, Ph.D. โEven more important than the dollar volume of sponsored research or the ranking is the impact that VCU has on so many communities in Virginia and throughout the world, by bringing together some of the worldโs very best researchers from across a wide range of disciplines.
โNone of this could have happened without a world-class faculty,โ Rao emphasized. โI am profoundly proud of and grateful for my faculty colleagues at Virginia Commonwealth University for the depth of their concern for humanity and the well-being of all people.โ
Rao shared a preview of the 2024 sponsored research figures with the Board of Visitors at its annual retreat this week.
