Virginia Asian Chamber partners with two other groups to spur trade and investment

The Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce is partnering with India and China chambers of commerce in the U.S. to spur trade and investment here and abroad.
The Richmond-based organization has agreed to work with the National US India Chamber of Commerce and the Washington-China Chamber of Commerce to help the Virginia organization and its partners expand trade and investment activities on behalf of businesses based in Virginia, China and India, as well as other nations.
“It’s our responsibility to bring more investment and business opportunities, and employment opportunities for our people, Tinh Phan, the Virginia Asian Chamber’s chairman, said Tuesday.
The chambers plan on having business groups from India and China visit the state to make contacts with Virginia enterprises, and to send trade missions from the state to the two Asian economic giants to foster economic development.
“There are tremendous opportunities for Virginia businesses to partner with India, whether in manufacturing or exporting more to India, or having investment partners,” said Purnima Voria, founder and CEO of the National US India Chamber, based in Denver.
“Indian businesses are looking either to buy growth-oriented companies or become joint-venture partners with them,” Voria said, and India has “an insatiable need” for energy, infrastructure, hospitals and medical equipment, and education.
The Virginia Asian Chamber made the announcement about the agreement with the two organizations during the chamber’s sixth Annual Gala, held Tuesday evening at The Jefferson Hotel in downtown Richmond.
The chamber also honored four state business leaders. Receiving awards were:
Angela Chiang, with the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity, who was given the Asian Leadership Inspiration Award;
Todd P. Haymore, Virginia’s secretary of agriculture and forestry, who received the Economic Development Visionary Award;
Becky Merritt, with Dominion Resources Inc., who was given the Champion of Community Stewardship; and
Sharon Rheinhart, with W.M. Jordan Co., who received the Champion of Business Diversity.
The Virginia Asian Chamber’s honorees were recognized for their dedication and commitment to their industry and community, which assisted in the state’s overall growth and development.
The Virginia Asian Chamber says it is the voice of more than 47,500 Asian-owned businesses and professionals with cultural roots in 37 Asian countries.
